God of the beaten, you know what it is like to have your identity stripped to the point of humiliation. When we are stripped of our identity, let us find identity in you. May your gaze be lifted upon us and find us valued, good, whole and worthy. Bless this new building and the good work that will be done here. There are many who come into this building seeking help and identity. May your healing presence be infused in this building and may they feel your peace as they come through these doors. May they find identity and hope here. Amen.
Ponder on the Journey
The closer we come to each other, the closer we come to God. In abuse, the abuser slowly removes the victim from any good relationships with others. How are you making sure you maintain good relationships with friends outside of your immediate family? How intentional are you about nurturing and maintaining friendships?
NEXT STOP
Your next stop will be the Pitts Chapel United Methodist Church
Jesus is further stripped of his divine power and dignity when he is stripped of his clothes, beaten, pierced and mocked. His identity even as a human being is slowly being stripped away as well. You are looking at the future site of The Victim Center, which is scheduled to be completed in June. We could not bring you to the location of the current building because vulnerable clients depend on coming and going under the safety of privacy. The Victim Center provides free-of-charge services to all victims of violent or sexual crimes. These types of crimes seek to obliterate the identity of the victim and strip away any type of agency. The Victim Center’s mission is “to foster safety and health in our communities by walking with victims along their journey from trauma and tragedy to hope and healing”.
John 19:1-3 (NRSV)
19 Then Pilate took Jesus and had him flogged. 2 And the soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they dressed him in a purple robe. 3 They kept coming up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and striking him on the face.
