Melissa answered her call to ministry in 1990, serving on staff at United Methodist churches in this area. Choosing the path of ordained elder, she received her Masters of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, KY. She was ordained in June 2013.
Some of her favorite parts of ministry are intercessory prayer and faith formation. Her undergraduate degree from Missouri State is in teaching and she never lost her first love to teach. Watching the Scriptures blow open for followers of Christ is a powerful thing.
Melissa is a member of the District Mission Council, has been camp director at Camp Galilee, and has taught district lay speaker courses and safe sanctuary training. In 2013 she delivered the sermon at the Springfield All-City Easter Sunrise Service at Hammons Field.
Having grown up in a family that cared for others, her involvement in community outreach missions seems natural. She had served on the boards of Crosslines, Community Foundation of the Ozarks and currently Rainbow Network. Most recently God has opened her heart to Haiti and Nicaragua, giving her opportunities to travel and serve in both countries.
Nothing is more relaxing or a better use of her free time in her opinion than sitting with a good book and her dog in her lap.
