LOVE OTHERS TEAM MEETING MINUTES

 

The Love Others Team met on July 26, 2011

The meeting was attended by:  LisaThomas, KathyLove, LynnClements, KellyBlankenship & AmyLangston.

Discussion included:

1.      Education Items:

  • Fall Sunday School begins/Children’s Promotion Sunday – Aug. 21
  • Need teachers for 4&5 yr. olds and a helper for 5th & 6th gr.
  • Sunday School Teacher Recognition & 3rd gr. Bible presentations-Sept. 18
  • Trunk-Or-Treat – Sun., Oct. 30 4:30-6:30 PM
  • Children’s Christmas Program – Dec. 11, 11:00 Worship Service

 

2.      Contacting/tracking members who have missed worship.  DanScott has passed the torch to Lisa!  The Love Others Team would like to recruit pew captains in each worship service to help us with this process.

3.      Block Party:  Sat. Aug. 13.  Outdoor activities will take place on the north side of the church and not on the parking lot in hopes it will be cooler.

4.      Parent’s Night Out for Portland/Asbury families.  Fri., Dec. 16, 5-9PM.  This event will replace our annual children’s Christmas party this year.  We will offer parents a safe, fun environment of childcare while they take an opportunity to go to dinner or do some Christmas shopping.  We will provide a light dinner, snack, movie & crafts for Christmas gifts.  We hope to share the Christmas spirit with the children as some may not know of the Birth of Jesus.  Fliers will be handed out at the Block Party and Meet the Teacher Day to advertise.  Coordination will also take place with the school office to have families sign up.

5.      Classes for Portland parents.  We would like to reach out & offer a class at the end of October or early November.  Four topics will be considered:  Budgeting/ Stretching Your Money, Parenting Skills, Stress Relief and Credit Counseling.  Sign-ups will be taken at the Block Party and Meet the Teacher Day to get an idea of interest.  If permission is granted from the school district and principal, the class will be held at Portland Elementary.

The topic and leader will be decided after we receive feedback from the sign-ups.  Child care will be provided by our volunteers.  Insurance will need to be looked at for this event.
